NZMA was founded in 1985 and is 100% New Zealand-owned. NZMA is funded by the New Zealand Government, with approximately 2000 domestic students and 400 international students across our three campuses.

At NZMA we are proud to offer everything that international students need – from language support when you start, right through to employment support when you graduate. NZMA’s dedicated employment service, NZMA Careers, will help you with employment when you arrive in New Zealand, to assist you with your cost of living and ensure you gain relevant New Zealand work experience. Throughout your studies NZMA Careers will work with you to develop your career plan and maximize your work experience. Once you graduate, they’ll help you launch your new career.

Hospitality Management

National Diploma in Hospitality Management Level 5

This programme will fine-tune your practical skills and provide you with a sound knowledge of operations management and systems management in the hospitality industry. It is intended for people with no prior experience in hospitality but who wish to obtain broad knowledge and understanding of the operational divisions of this sector.

 

Diploma in Applied Hospitality Management Level 6

Step out of the classroom and into the workplace with a 600 hour full-time paid internship. This is your chance to put into practice all you’ve learnt during your NZMA studies. You’ll enhance your skills, gain vital work experience and complete an in-depth research project. It’s a great addition to your CV and may even lead to a permanent role after you graduate!

During the first 18 months of this two-year programme you’ll complete your Level 5 and 6 Diplomas in Hospitality Management. In the last 20 weeks you’ll gain first-hand industry experience, by completing an internship and a relevant research project.

Cookery

Diploma in Professional Cookery Level 5

This course covers a broad range of advanced cookery skills and knowledge, enabling you to progress as a chef in the hospitality industry. You can choose to specialise in either patisserie or gastronomy and will develop a plan and implement a live dinner service. The final semester of the course includes a full-time 600 hour paid internship and an accompanying research project. This will give you the leading edge when it comes to launching your career - as well as great qualifications and skills, you’ll graduate from NZMA with significant industry experience. This will look great on your CV!

NZMA’s Diploma in Professional Cookery (Level 5) produces professional chefs of the highest calibre who have all the right skills, knowledge and experience to succeed in today’s workplace.

Campus Location

Ideally located on the doorstep of New Zealand’s biggest shopping complex, we’re just a short stroll from the train station and a 20 minute train ride from Auckland’s CBD. Handy to all major bus routes, limited campus parking is also available to students for a small charge.

Fully equipped with the latest facilities, NZMA Sylvia Park boasts brand new commercial kitchens, barista stations, a student-run café and spacious restaurant and bar training areas. Thanks to these authentic training environments, NZMA students graduate with real workplace skills and experience. For our business students, up-to-the-minute computer classrooms and a large cyber suite complete the package.

Support Service

NZMA offers a most excellent study experience to international students through a range of support services.

 

Airport Pick Up

The Institution offers airport pick up service for first-time students who arrive at the Auckland airport. The service is offered at a small cost. Those who wish to use the service should email their details prior to their arrival.

 

Accommodation

NZMA arranges hotel accommodation within easy reach from the campus and at reasonable cost. NZMA can also arrange homestay accommodation for students who opt to live with a family. Students are provided with their own single room with a bed, lamp, drawers, linen and a heater. Also included are electricity, local phone calls and access to a washing machine. Bathroom and kitchen facilities are shared with their homestay family. A Homestay Application Form must be completed and sent to NZMA at least two weeks prior to arrival.

 

Career Service

As an international student, finding relevant employment can be challenging. All NZMA tutors have extensive industry experience and a wide network of employer contacts. NZMA has its own dedicated employment company, NZMA Careers, which has partnerships with many of Auckland’s leading business and hospitality employers. Students are trained on CV writing and interview techniques to help them find part-time employment while they study and full-time employment when they graduate.
