Working on a New Zealand student visa

As an international student in New Zealand it is a visa requirement for you to study full time. Students who are enrolled on courses that are over two years in length (or who are studying a subject that would make them eligible for points under the Skilled Migrant category) in New Zealand are eligible to work up to 20 hours per week during the term time and full time in the holiday periods.

At the moment New Zealand has a relatively strong economy which means that it is generally not too difficult for students to find part time employment in or around the universities. Typically students undertake work in restaurants, cafes, bars, tutoring, administration or retail. Part time work while studying can be very helpful in helping to meet living costs but is not usually enough to contribute towards tuition fees.

The minimum wage in New Zealand is $13.50 NZD per hour before tax.
